Banners :)

I think we're one of the last few places that paint banners. To think we started the biz with this, its become a pretty niche product, a banner, where prints sell for more than the paintings at times. Letter artists, mixing specialists and the assistants who first draw the graphs for the subjects to be filled in, all come together to put stuff like this together. I've grown up with these people around me, stories of my father cleaning brushes and palettes for his pocket money... so the few times nowadays, that a banner does get painted, I document it.

The one above was made for a bollywood themed wedding, the face cutouts where one can put their heads in and take a picture. This one was lying in my shed, and was about to get painted over.

Sherlock - Minimalist Posters

These have helped greatly in getting over a recent obsession.
I am addicted to the BBC's adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.
I don't think i'm the sort to go to this length for a TV show, and I watch and enjoy many.

I've always wanted to have my own series of minimalist posters for something and I was a bit pressed for time, so I've kept them very simple. Had fun making them :) Took me a day to make them while I waited for prints from another project.
I have 2 more left though...

There are numerous takes one can have when everything is "minimal"... I chose to go with a more figurative approach. one route was also to iconise the key objects that define each episode or case. However similar things had already been done. I'd like to screen print these, so kept them down to 2 colors. Let me know if there are any takers out there? :)

Hopeless George ~ Umbrella Magazine

Had the pleasure to illustrate for the Umbrella Magazine, a free publication in the UK. The article concerned their chancellor George Osbourne and the austerity measures he's carrying out in the country.

Working on the new Papa Pancho! recipe book. Just gotten the hang of drawing Papa and going a little crazy with him :)

Tehelka

Worked on an illustration for Tehelka's fiction issue. Tried something different again. It was nothing like this when I began and after very a many mixed reaction I was finally at peace with the one up here.

The Mumbai Film Festival

Helped Vidha put together the Mumbai Film Festival Posters.. It was fun working on the last few days of it, she's been at it for a few months!

Both of us sat together one evening and tried to boil down what would be iconic about the watching a "Mumbai Film Festival"
... when my dad came along and started telling us little stories around filmmaking. One of which was about the film cans and reels being taken by handcart or a cycle from one theatre to the next between the 3:15 and the 3:30 show.

Finally at the end of the day, even a film takes a cycle, or a handcart and has to travel amongst the everyday. That's Mumbai :)

Flipping through magazines

I've decided i'm putting the magazines lying around the office to some better use... Also try a bit of realistic rendering.. Its convenient to shy away from it... I've also taken out the watercolour kit now.. its bin drying up :( Anybody want to post me a spraycan? I've been using a toothbrush... You can send me those too though.. :)

Been illustrating for GQ... and its great fun! Its allowing me to vent almost.. trying something new with every illustration, some work and some don't and they have to be redone, but getting an idea of what works and what doesnt for a reader. The magazine comes with its specifics, the specific "visually literate" demographic it caters to :P

Attempting different concepts and styles as per the article... its a quick timeline that is set...

Got the opportunity to illustrate for the GQ in the November issue :)

This article was called "the Manifesto"... its about how the nature of The Man in particular has changed from that of the non political, barbaric and raw to that of one who minces his words and now asks for permission from his wife to do things... we don't know if this is for the better or worse but yeah I guess its true... he picks pink wallpaper for the house and makes polite conversation with his wife's friends... the article is almost a before and after where the man of the past looks at today's guy and says "You Suck!" hmmmmm...
